What Is Photojournalism

A lot of people might wonder what is photojournalism? and how photojournalism impacts us. I never really wondered that question before taking this class, I feel like even though I like art and I do a lot of study for art I have never really looked into photography outside of picture composition and a pond taking Digital Photography last semester I did start my little research.

After picking up photojournalism as one of my classes this semester I did a little research of my own on what is photoounalism. but after doing my research I feel like it depends on the person and it a personal explanation but people have come to terms with what photojournalism is. According to Google's definition," photojournalism is the communication of news through photographs " but I think that photojournalism is more than just photos of news, I feel like photojournalism is the picture of the journey or a piece of history that is in photo forms because it doesn't have to be about war or something tragic to be put on new papers. photojournalism can be about showing a story through photography, It could be a picture of a guy who broke records in a sports game 20 years ago or it could be recent as a female tennis player Coco Gauff who won the U.S. Open at the age of 19. to sum it up, my meaning of photoournalism is the picture that tell time and story, that just my little take on photojournalism. what is your definition of photojournalism?

I think that photojournalism is a skill to learn with the camera angles and the composition of the pictures that can tell emotions by just looking at the pictures but I feel like photojournalism can be more than just a career but defines the word a career can intimidate people who just started, I'm sure that you have a moment where you look back at your old picture that think about the memories behind that picture, to me, that is photojournalism. what is the picture you look at and still smile about the memories you had behind that picture?

this picture above I believe is an example of photojournalism, It is probably the simplest picture of a flower to you but to me, I think that spring comes in season, especially in the United States where they are 4 different seasons, I have lived here for a year now and this is my second year here, from what I know this flower only blooms in summer and spring and the plant completely died in winter and come back again in spring which is mesmerizing to me. during the winter this plant shows no sign of life turning completely brown, no leaves, and no sign of life but when spring comes around the plant comes back to life. the plant turning green and drawing new leaves and then the flowing blooming in late spring and staying there till the end of summer. it is a journey to witness the flower going through the cycle of life and for this reason, I belive this picture is an example of photojournalism.

This picture can be a journey of someone but for me, this photo of a guy playing games at his desk doesn't give me the feeling of being amazed by the story behind it. I feel like the picture is boring with nothing catching the eye and there isn't any story that can be behind this picture. Compared to my explanation of the picture of the flower there's nothing I can say to this picture much except that the lighting in this picture is very interesting. from this reasoning, I believe this picture is not an example of photojournalism

My current relationship with photojournalism is minimal, I feel like I don't know much about photojournalism, which is why I wanted to take this course. to learn more about what is photojournalism. I would say that my relationship is minimal because I will see news that pop up on my social media that have stories and news related to it but other than that I never really went out of my way to search it up. I want to learn more about photojournalism and the skills behind it because it will help me to connect with my clients in the future producing an image or something that has a deeper meaning and connection to the work I give them. I wanted to know more about the technique that the photographer used to make these images so impactful when you look at them and after learning more about this class I'm going to make sure I consume more news so that I have examples of work to look up to and I will be more aware of what is going on in our world.
